Being parents and child educators at the same time can mean a whole lot of
responsibility, commitment and patience. Handling and educating toddlers from
the ages of 15 months to three years old is one of the most challenging tasks
for a mother or an educator. This is where kids get their first taste of nursery
learning. Research has proven that formal early childhood education can help
a child be an independent, smart and creative learner at an early age. This
also helps to facilitate future learning styles.
Understanding the concerns and anxieties of many young working parents, the
Smart Reader Kids Junior® programme is specially designed for parents
who want the best for their children in the early learning and formative years
of childhood. Compared to home education at an early stage, Smart Reader Kids
Junior® learners are exposed to a fun and interactive learning environment
where they mingle with other kids and learn at the same time. Through this
creative environment, toddlers have so much fun that the learning process becomes
enjoyable.
First-time parents, Mohd Nor Hasnimaizam b. Othman and his wife, Siti Zurianah
bt Othman find that starting toddlers with quality early childhood education
is an important step to ensure wholesome growth, which will help to develop
positive thinking skills.
“Looking for a good nursery cum child enrichment centre with a complete
educational package is not an easy task. It is difficult to find a centre with
a good child enrichment programme as well as trustworthy childcare facilities.
We are glad to have found the Smart Reader Kids Junior® programme for
our child to get the best early exposure in learning and childhood training,
which he hardly gets from home education,” expressed Siti Zurianah, who
started her only son, Adam Mukhriz, two and a half years old, with Smart Reader
Kids Junior® Damansara Heights last year.
“My husband and I strongly believe that early childhood education is
the first step to a lifetime education investment. Not only do we want to see
our child excel academically, but we also want to instil the right attitude
in him from young. Before I started my job, I thought that I could give him
early education from home. But, I realised that he needs more professional
early childhood education as activity based learning and social interaction
is only available at the Centre,” continued Siti Zurianah, who nearly
gave up her job when she could not find a suitable nursery for her child. She
is working for one of the largest telecommunication organisations in the country.
"..It is difficult to find a centre with a good child
enrichment programme as well as trustworthy childcare facilities. We are
glad to have found the Smart Reader Kids Junior® programme." According
to Adam’s father, Mohd Nor
Hasnimaizam, Adam has progressed tremendously from the first day he joined
the Centre. His child now is able to speak the appropriate language when interacting
with children or adults of different races.
“Adam speaks Bahasa Melayu to his Malay friends and also his grandmother.
When he sees others, he will converse in English. He is a very active and friendly
child. He greets ‘hello’ or ‘good morning,’ and shakes
hands whenever he meets people. He is also able to answer the phone at home.
The other day when we went out, he brought me a CD and asked me for money to
pay for it!” relates Nor Hasnimaizam, who is a police officer in Bukit
Aman.
Adam’s mother also shared another incident where Adam wandered off by
himself in a shopping mall , causing both parents to panic. Their search for
him led them to the cashier’s counter where he was queuing up with a
shirt in his hands!
According to Smart Reader Kids Junior® principal, Madam Harbans Kaur
a.k.a. Mrs Singh, Adam is a fast learner. He is very perceptive and is able
to grasp things quickly. He is very talkative, but well-behaved. She reiterated
that the exposure he receives at the Centre has helped him a lot in his social
interaction and positive manners.
“Adam is very curious about his surroundings. He asks a lot of questions
to find out more about what is happening around him. At the Centre, he is always
talking and acting as teacher to the other kids,” relates Mrs Singh.
Always with a smiling face, Adam sang ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ softly
when asked what his favourite song was.
On the programme itself, Adam’s parents expressed satisfaction in terms
of the teachers, environment and the syllabus. They are also impressed with
the frequent parent-teacher meetings held at the Centre to further discuss
the progress and well being of the children.
Adam’s parents feel that it is the responsibility of parents to help
their children realise their potential, and this can only be done if early
childhood education is given due importance.
