At
a glance, Neshel Inbashekaran may just be an ordinary six-year old boy. However,
it doesn’t take a long time to get to know this talented and outspoken
child. Just within an hour, he can tell you stories about his life and experience
of growing up with Smart Reader Kids® Desa Aman Puri. His talent and intelligence
shine further with his achievement of being the top finalists and winning the
Best Reader Award category in the recent Smart Reader ® Kid of the Year 2005.
“At the competition, I sang a song entitled ‘Chan Mali Chan’,
told a story about ‘The Tortoise and the Rabbit’ and recite a Malay
poem at the end. I’m very happy to win the Best Reader Award,” recalled
Neshel, who enjoys reading since he was three. When asked about his feelings
being on stage, he smiled and said that he just thought of being the champion
in the competition.
Being a big fan of Formula One Racing and The English Premier League, Neshel
never fails to watch his favourite teams, McLaren Mercedes and Manchester United
soccer team on television with his dad and older brother, Keshvien, seven. Already
an active child, Neshel always volunteers to participate in various activities
organised by the school, especially in stage performances.
According to Neshel’s mum, Sheila Inbashekaran, she is happy that her
sons are given ample opportunities to learn and express themselves creatively
and confidently through many in-and-out of classroom activities. She is impressed
and thankful with the teachers’ professional efforts that effectively bring
out the best in every child.

after they had some unhappy experiences with the previous child care centre.
Just within three months, I can see that they really enjoy the fun and interactive
environment at Smart Reader Kids®. They are now very confident and independent
in many ways. The two brothers compete healthily as they encourage each other
to perform at their best. They also learn to solve their own problems independently,” said
Sheila.
Sheila also added that her boys read a lot of books at home. They also enjoy
reading other materials, such as magazines and newspapers. Their language skills
improved tremendously through the habit of reading.
“Neshel is very talkative. Once he comes home from school, he will give
me all the details and updates from school. I don’t have to tell him on
what he should do. He knows how to manage his own timetable. Usually, he’ll
sit and study together with his brother. At other times, they will watch television
or play football with their father,” continued Sheila.
According to the principal of Smart Reader Kids® Desa Aman Puri, Elsie
Yong, Neshel speaks very well in both English and Bahasa Melayu. Having the exposures
and experiences in stage performances, Neshel now voluntarily sign up for a number
of events and activities organised by the school before he leaves for Primary
One next year. He even took part in a kids’ programme on television and
performed a ‘Lion Dance’ during the Chinese New Year celebration
early this year.
“Being a confident and curious child, he questions a lot. He always
wants to find out the answers to everything. Therefore, he likes to learn and
be knowledgeable in many subjects. Being an outspoken child, he is also very
friendly. All the other kids enjoy to be around him,” said Elsie.
Dressed in the Malay traditional costume, the Baju Melayu during the competition
and interview, Neshel expressed that he wants to become a doctor. “I want
to take care of people’s hearts!” he said as he giggled.
