Being a Smart Reader Kid

There is something special about six-year old Nerin Kaur Khaira. Having beautiful features as a child, Nerin simply attracts attentions from people around her. Started with Smart Reader Kids® Pelangi Indah, Johor Bharu three years ago, Nerin learns to further develop her potential and proves that she is more than just a pretty face.

Being one of the top finalists and First Runner-up at the recent Smart Reader® Kid of the Year 2005, Nerin does not only outshines her talent on stage, but also further proves herself in knowledge, attitude, responsibility, class participation, social interaction, leadership qualities and academic achievements. Nerin and her family have recently made a trip from Johor Bharu to Kuala Lumpur to share their stories on early childhood education and preschool experiences with Smart Reader Kids.

“I was a little scared and nervous being on stage that day. I answered all the questions posted by the judges before telling a story on ‘The Little Red Riding Hood.’ I feel so happy and excited when they announced me as a winner. Then, I went out for a celebration with my family,” relates Nerin, who enjoys the limelight of being a young entertainer. Her facial expressions and body language complimented her story-telling style. She exuded talent and confidence on stage when she creatively displayed a story and dance routine that afternoon.

“When I grow up, I want to be an animal doctor (veterinarian)!” exclaimed Nerin, when asked on her ambition. “Everybody takes care of people, but nobody takes care of the animals,” reasoned Nerin on her dream role. Being a friendly and outspoken child, Nerin always entertains her family members with her stories, songs and dance movements. Even her teachers and friends are fascinated with her confidence and originality in giving impromptu speech and performing in front of a crowd.

Nerin does not only outshines her talent on stage, but also further proves herself in knowledge, attitude, responsibility, class participation, social interaction, leadership qualities and academic achievements. According to Nerin’s mum, Amar Jit Kaur Khaira, Nerin has been to a couple of kindergartens before settling down with Smart Reader Kids® Pelangi Indah, JB. “She likes the place (Smart Reader Kids® Pelangi Indah, JB) instantly and just within weeks, I could see that she enjoys the fun and interactive environment at Smart Reader Kids®,” said Amar Jit, who is impressed and thankful with the teachers’ professional efforts that effectively bring out the best in every child. Only then, Amar Jit decided to join the fraternity as a preschool teacher with Smart Reader Kids® Pelangi Indah, JB.

“Nobody will ever feel bored being around Nerin. She loves to talk and read stories to others. She even teaches her “kakak” (the maid) to speak in English at home. We believe that the early exposure in learning and mixing with other children is good for her as she is becoming more matured and confident in expressing herself. With the support from the school and encouragement from us, her talent develops positively,” continued Nerin’s father, Harman Singh Khaira.

Nerin is also very close to her older brother despite their age gap of seven years. Both brother and sister always compete healthily as they encourage each other to perform at their best. They also learn to solve their own problems independently.

“Being parents, we believe in giving the best for our children to help them develop their potential and realise their dreams. Hence, we always motivate and encourage them to perform their best. We constantly tell them to be brave and do not be afraid to try on new things. We just need to communicate with them and give them a lot of love and care to ensure they grow up in a healthy environment,” explained Amar Jit. Both Nerin’s parents agreed that children should be given the opportunity to enjoy their childhood and learn to be appreciative from young.

“We do not force Nerin to outperform herself. We just guide her as much as we can, so that she can make the best decision for herself. We encourage our children to discuss with us when they have any problem or when they need to make any major decision,” said both parents.
