The phrase “Children are our future” is commonly used when we talk about our future generation. But, do we know what it really means? Even if we do, how can we help to secure a better future for our children? The responsibility of raising a child is definitely not an easy task. But, we can start investing in our children by giving them one of the most precious gifts in life… Education.
At a glance, Deana Sofea Ahmad Faizi may just be another ordinary six-year old girl. Although she is more of a silent-observer, she possesses independence and leadership qualities at such a young age. Started with Smart Reader Kids® Kelana Jaya two years ago, Sofea just loves going to school. She does not want to be late for school even for a day, not to mention missing school. There were times when she missed the school bus and insisted that her dad sends her to school.
“There are some attractions about Smart Reader Kids® Kelana Jaya that encourage Sofea to attend school everyday. I strongly believe it is the special bond between the teachers and the young students. Through constant interaction with teachers and friends, and proper exposure, children will pick up the good values and habits along the way,” said Sofea’s dad, Ahmad Faizi Ismail, who feels that children from all walks of life should be given the opportunity to start with a quality early childhood education from young.
According to Sofea’s mum, Norliza Noor Shahid, Sofea shows remarkable progress and development in her studies and social skills. She has also improved tremendously in her speaking and reading skills.
“I’m very impressed with Sofea’s progress in school. She displays confidence and independence in her work, especially when she speaks and performs in front of a crowd. I’m also happy that she is learning all the moral values from school and incorporating them into her daily practice. On special occasions like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, she will come home with cards that she specially made for us in school and gave them to us. It’s a good thing that she learns to be appreciative and care for others,” relates Norliza.
Through constant interaction with teachers and friends, and proper exposure, children will pick up the good values and habits along the wayShe added that parents nowadays have high expectations on their children’s future. Hence, a good start in learning will definitely prepare them for their future undertakings.
“I believe that children’s characters are inborn. It is our responsibility as adults to provide them the opportunity and necessary environment that help them to develop their own potential,” continued Norliza.
When asked on Sofea’s interests and her experiences with Smart Reader Kids®, she just smiled shyly and answered, “I love my school because of my friends and teachers.”
“In school, I learn about all the good things in moral classes and I also learn about shadows in science classes. When I grow up, I want to be a nurse to help the doctors,” states Sofea, who participated in the “Start ‘em Young” programme by Salvon early this year, which aimed at educating parents, caregivers and children on the importance of “public safety and first aid treatment”.
Sofea also presented a song entitled, “Thousand Legged Worm” during the interview.
“Sofea is very reserved and quiet when she first joined. With much assistance from her parents and teachers, she is becoming more extrovert and active in school. She takes her work seriously as she attentively listens and takes instructions and advice from her teachers. She also helps to explain to other children in any case when they have doubts about schoolwork or during concert practice in school,” explained Shanthi, principal of Smart Reader Kids® Kelana Jaya. Shanthi also added that Sofea is currently practising a cultural dance for the year-end’s concert. “She is very excited about it,” she said.
On the various activities organised by the school, both Sofea’s parents expressed satisfaction as there are ample opportunities provided for their children to build their self-confidence and achieve further as they grow.
“We are impressed with the school’s events, especially during celebrations. There was once during Merdeka Day celebration, the kids joined together and paraded with the Merdeka songs played. There are also constant field trips to provide extra exposures for the children. We are amused by the efforts put in by the teachers to instil the spirit of togetherness among the children, especially during festivities,” continued Norliza, who constantly discuss with the teachers on her child’s progress in school.
