No parents can predict how their children will grow up. They will be our future and continue to live on for us when we leave the world. But, how can we ensure that they will have better lives ahead of them? How can we determine their survival in this competitive world? We, as adults can definitely make a difference in our children’s lives by building a solid foundation for them to face their own future. A good investment is giving them a quality early childhood education.
While many children are still clueless about their future, five-year old Danisyah Irdina Saadan already has a vision of her own. Being a caring and compassionate child, she wants to become a doctor to help those who are in need. Taking her mum (who is a medical doctor) as her role model, Danisyah believes that she can fulfill her dream of being a doctor when she grows up.
Started with Smart Reader Kids® Taman Equine last year, Danisyah never have problems at home or in school. She is very independent and serious with her work. Already following the Smart Reader Kids® preschool programme since she was two and a half years old with another Smart Reader Kids® centre, Danisyah just enjoys learning and being in school. Due to relocation of her residence, the transition of schools did not at all affect Danisyah’s interest in learning. In fact, she is happy that she is still with Smart Reader Kids®.
“I have many friends in school where we play and study together. My favourite subject is Mathematics, especially on ‘times’ (multiplication). I like to watch Disney Channel, ‘P.B & J. Otter.’ I attend ballet classes and love swimming too,” confessed Danisyah.
According to Danisyah’s mum, Dr Ruzaina Abd Manaf, her daughter started speaking in English at home after joining Smart Reader Kids®. She even insists that everyone at home speaks the same language including her maid. At times, she will correct her maid’s English and teach her how to speak ‘proper’ English.
“Danisyah likes doing revision on school lessons at home. She loves to read, draw and write. She carries along her storybooks, pencil and notebook in her bag wherever she goes. At such a young age, I’m glad that she is very outspoken and independent. At two and a half years old, she is able to get onto the school bus and go to school on her own,” explained Dr Ruzaina, who has another seven-month old son.
To Dr Ruzaina, Early Childhood Education is a necessity for today’s children to help them develop their own potential and excel further in life. At such a tender age, these children need to be groomed into fine individuals as they grow up.To Dr Ruzaina, Early Childhood Education is a necessity for today’s children to help them develop their own potential and excel further in life. “In school, Danisyah likes to perform, be it singing, dancing or story-telling. She is a very imaginative, creative and expressive child. When she starts telling you a story, she will go on and on, inserting her own ideas to form the storylines as her facial expressions and body language complimented her story-telling style. Being one of the best students at Smart Reader Kids® Taman Equine, she is very helpful in school. She speaks fluent English and persuades her friends to converse in the same language. She also assists some of her friends, who are trying to cope with the English and Mathematics subjects in school,” added Azbrina Abdul Aziz, principal of Smart Reader Kids® Taman Equine.
Azbrina also said that Danisyah always volunteers to participate in all kinds of activities organised by the school. She even took part in the Smart Reader Kids® National Spelling Challenge three months ago. She is also very excited and confident when it comes to the weekly ‘Show-and-Tell’ session where each child is to bring an item from home, show the class and start telling stories about the item in front of the other children. She enjoys being in the limelight as a young entertainer. Sometimes, during concert practices, she will give ideas or suggestions on the dance steps and movements.
“We are planning to conduct the Smart Mandarin™ programme next year due to the high demand of the language among the Malay community in this area. It is to the interest of the parents and their children to start learning another significant language from young,” continued Azbrina.
