Parents
want their children to be successful, grow up to be skilled individuals and
be recognised in society. In order for this to happen, the child needs to develop
a creative and innovative mind. Most scientists believe that the brain is made
up of two parts-the left brain and the right brain. The left brain controls
the more logical subject areas such as Mathematics, speech, and the Sciences,
the right brain however is holistic and unlike the left brain, which focuses
on the details, focuses on the big picture.
Most schools, including our education system, favours
our left brain compared to our right. This is because
the idea of excelling in the hardcore subjects like
Mathematics and Science is very important to us. Hence,
you have the grilling and the memorising. However,
the right brain controls the child’s emotions,
feelings and his/her imagination as a whole.
Now we have to determine is having an imaginative child
important? In a fast changing world we need imagination
to help us think ahead. In today’s world, we need
to help our children to keep up with all the economic,
technological and social changes that are occurring every
single day. In order to cope with all of this, we need
to use our inborn ability to imagine what is coming our
way.
Children have all the abilities to do the above, it
is up to us to ensure that this ability is tapped and
brought to surface. A good place to start tapping this
ability is at Smart Reader Kids® says Ms Joanne
Tan, the principal of Smart Reader Kids® Bandar
Country Homes, Rawang. In an interview with her and
two of her students, the importance of imagination
and creativity was brought to light.
